A Beautiful Apology from Phoenix TV Anchor Xu Gehui By Shang Dang Yun Jun

In the afternoon of Dec 21st at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong hotel,Mrs. Xu Gehui, anchor star of Phoenix TV, came to Mr. Li Huxiao, the vice president of Air China who had just finished his speech on 2006 World Executive Summit and was seated at the VIP area. "Mr. Li, I have to apologize. I misread your name as Li Xiaohu. It should be Li Huxiao." said Xu Gehui with heartfelt smile on her face. Li Huxiao responded delightfully with a smile.

However, this was not the end of the misunderstanding. Instead, it was the beginning of a happy and relaxed conversation beyond all expectations:

Xu Gehui:"Mr. Li, were you born in the morning?"

Li Huxiao:"Yes (Smile)."

Xu Gehui:"Then the meaning of your name is tiger in the morning? How strong and powerful!"（Laughed the audience） Li Huxiao: (Also laughed)

Xu Gehui:"Mr. Li, was your name always misread as Li Xiaohu during childhood?"

Li Huxiao:(Laughed)Good guess!(Laughed the audience)

Xu Gehui: "I often take Air China's flight. I feel that Air China has gone through very big change in recent years. Air China's in-flight service is excellent and Air China as a brand is also gaining more and more influence in the world."

Li Huxiao:(Continuous smile)

Xu Gehui:"It seems that Phoenix TV and Air China have nice things in common. See? We all use lovely phoenix as our logos！"

Li Huxiao:"You are right. Both of our logos represent happiness and good luck！"

Xu Gehui: "Exactly. Mr. Li, thank you very much for the excellent speech which brings forth Air China's new international brand strategy and its ambition to compete on the world stage. I sincerely wish Air China an even brighter future!" (Warmly applauded the audience)

This conversation kept pondering in my mind. A simple slip of the tongue and an apology led to a decent, humorous and smart conversation, which showed Xu Gehui's respect to VP Li and Air China.

This was such a beautiful apology, which turned misunderstanding and embarrassment into friendship. Everyone felt delightful, as well as the charm, wisdom and kindness of Mrs. Xu Gehui.

Mrs. Xu Gehui's praise word also drew the attention of Mr. Roberta Mundell, the Father of Euro and the Chairman of the conference. He said while exchanging toast with Mr. Li: "It is very impressive that Air China grows stronger day by day. I can tell from your speech which explains Air China’s international brand strategy, you people has already made the bugle call! "
